Spectators: 7239 (Terracing: 5431, Seating: 1665, VIP seats: 143) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Benedito Neiva started the match with the kick off. The supporters of Montevidio booed when Republica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Adolfo Perez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Felippe Pontes took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 6th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Zé Paulo Torres. Republica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Narciso Sergipano made an important save on a dangerous shot by João Adolfo Perez in the 7th minute. When Sílvio Luís de Mendonça came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Montevidio fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sílvio Luís de Mendonça couldn't finish the play. After 15 minutes, João Adolfo Perez mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Republica and the Montevidio players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Republica getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. João Adolfo Perez hit a great ball. Zé Paulo Torres showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sílvio Luís de Mendonça, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Paulo Mesquita took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Zé Paulo Torres. Zé Paulo Torres dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Felippe Pontes hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Montevidio's Narciso Sergipano got control of the ball when Manoel Tróia tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 32nd match minute, Montevidio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Evandro Albuquerque to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Benedito Neiva put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Narciso Sergipano. Republica's Benedito Neiva got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manoel Tróia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Narciso Sergipano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sílvio Luís de Mendonça sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sílvio Luís de Mendonça to make the kick off. After some careless play in the Republica defense, Paulo Mesquita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zé Paulo Torres. The Republica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zé Paulo Torres should have stopped the shot. When Manoel Tróia came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Republica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manoel Tróia couldn't finish the play. A very good chance. 72 minutes into the match, Montevidio's goal looked a bit too open when Benedito Neiva came free, but Narciso Sergipano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Paulo Mesquita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manoel Tróia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Narciso Sergipano having to interfere. In the 79th minute Benedito Neiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Narciso Sergipano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Paulo Mesquita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zé Paulo Torres having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Benedito Neiva got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Narciso Bueno during the 94th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Benedito Neiva took the ball and in the 97 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Narciso Sergipano. Narciso Sergipano dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
