The audience was convinced that Basílio Breckenfeld's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Victor Romero was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. If Fernando Meira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee ignored Tarrafas's protests and gave Olavo Diniz a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Tarrafas getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Olavo Diniz hit a great ball. Giovanni Sanches's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Anderson Pinheiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Lucas Guerra managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tarrafas's supporters rose to their feet, but Lucas Guerra was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Victor Romero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lucas Guerra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Victor Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the match, Lucas Guerra had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Victor Romero. Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lucas Guerra was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Waldemar Xavier during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 45 played minutes Tarrafas got a freekick which was hit by Waldemar Xavier. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Lucas Guerra to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lucas Guerra fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Tarrafas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lucas Guerra was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Anderson Pinheiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Meira in the 85th minute of play. Anderson Pinheiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando Meira in the 88th minute of the match.
