Kaimo Äss fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernandinho Catarinense having to interfere. After having played for 6 minutes, Natã Galvão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fortaleza's supporters crossed their fingers, but Natã Galvão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fernandinho Catarinense made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Kaimo Äss sent off a good shot on target. The Fortaleza fans' excitement grew in the 9th match minute when Fortaleza's Kaimo Äss looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Dênis Velloso hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. When the match clock showed 16 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Kaimo Äss sped through Iparanga's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Fernandinho Catarinense. In the 23rd minute, Kaimo Äss fired away a shot that was totally unreachable for Fernandinho Catarinense. The ball ended up just outside the left post, and Fortaleza's manager could be seen angrily pacing the sidelines. Fernandinho Catarinense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaimo Äss in the 27th minute of play. Natã Galvão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fortaleza's Kaimo Äss got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 33rd minute Roberto Carneiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rene Oxel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Fortaleza's Natã Galvão slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Fernandinho Catarinense. That made the score 3-0 after 35 minutes of play. In the 39th minute of the match Dráusio Galvão sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rene Oxel skillfully saved the ball. Kaimo Äss in the 41stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Fernandinho Catarinense, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Natã Galvão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kaimo Äss made a kick off. After 52 minutes, Kaimo Äss made it 4-0 with a short kick to the right side. Iparanga's Fernandinho Catarinense tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Natã Galvão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernandinho Catarinense having to interfere. Fernandinho Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kaimo Äss, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 64th minute of the match Fortaleza got a corner. Iparanga's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Osvaldinho Sanches ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Osvaldinho Sanches got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Fernandinho Catarinense quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After a defensive mix-up in Iparanga's zone, Kaimo Äss stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fernandinho Catarinense came out of the goal and Kaimo Äss tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 71 minutes into the game, Fortaleza's Kaimo Äss nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fernandinho Catarinense made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. Kaimo Äss might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fernandinho Catarinense. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kaimo Äss ran back to his position shaking his head. If Natã Galvão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Olívio Figueiredo during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 82nd minute, Olívio Figueiredo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kaimo Äss in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fernandinho Catarinense saved Iparanga from getting behind. In the 87thth minute of the game Kaimo Äss who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Iparanga's Fernandinho Catarinense was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Fernandinho Catarinense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaimo Äss in the 88th minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Fortaleza players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
