The supporters of Tanhacu booed when Rifaina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valdomiro Toscano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dida Carneiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Aírton Falcão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edmílson Paraense in the 21st minute of the match. When Rubinho Aparecido came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Rifaina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rubinho Aparecido couldn't finish the play. 25 minutes into the match, Rifaina's goal looked a bit too open when Edmílson Paraense came free, but Aírton Falcão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aírton Falcão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Eduardo Neto in the 26th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Amorim in the 28th minute of play forced Rifaina's goalkeeper Aírton Falcão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aírton Falcão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldir Teles, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. 32 minutes into the match, Rifaina's goal looked a bit too open when Edmílson Paraense came free, but Aírton Falcão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dida Carneiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leonel Lopez having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Tanhacu's zone, Adrianinho Salgado stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonel Lopez came out of the goal and Adrianinho Salgado tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A hard shot 37 in the game by Antônio de Almeida from a close distance when the talented Leonel Lopez managed to make a qualified save. Tanhacu's players were relieved. In the 40th minute, Dida Carneiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Adrianinho Salgado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Tanhacu were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edmílson Paraense to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Luiz Eduardo Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tanhacu's supporters rose to their feet, but Luiz Eduardo Neto was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aírton Falcão breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Antônio de Almeida hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Rifaina defense, Fernando Amorim kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aírton Falcão. The Rifaina fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Aírton Falcão should have stopped the shot. Fernando Amorim struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Aírton Falcão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tanhacu. Dida Carneiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Lopez having to interfere. Tanhacu's Róbson Trancoso suffered a sprained foot after 93 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 93 minutes, Antônio de Almeida mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Rifaina and the Tanhacu players grew even worse after the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fernando Amorim got free with Aírton Falcão in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Tanhacu eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
