Alfredo Ortiz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu Pombal having to interfere. If Delfim Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Grêmio F.C's goalkeeper Romeu Pombal, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 27th minute, Alfredo Ortiz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Romeu Pombal was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Delfim Sampaio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Souza having to interfere. Dino Neto charged in rather forcefully in the 38th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dino Neto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Dino Neto kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Grêmio F.C defense, Alfredo Ortiz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Romeu Pombal. The Grêmio F.C fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Romeu Pombal should have stopped the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

If Alfredo Ortiz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cantori's Alfredo Ortiz got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luís Fábio Souza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Delfim Sampaio, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Pedro Luiz Guerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Souza having to interfere. After 68 played minutes Cantori got a freekick which was hit by Celso Donato. In the 70th minute, Delfim Sampaio made a precise shot to the right of Luís Fábio Souza. Cantori's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Cantori's Luís Fábio Souza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Luiz Guerra in the 81st minute of play. Romeu Pombal came out of the goal in the 88th minute to try and stop a shot by Cantori's Alfredo Ortiz. But to his dismay, Alfredo Ortiz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Romeu Pombal made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Alfredo Ortiz sent off a good shot on target. The Grêmio F.C supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Cantori's performance. The match ended with a win for Cantori.
