After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Alfredo Galvão managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caputera's supporters rose to their feet, but Alfredo Galvão was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gabrian Batistuta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Edmundo Linares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the match, Caputera's goal looked a bit too open when Dorival Toledo came free, but Hermínio de Alcântara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hudson Batista kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. When Augusto Brasil fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Hermínio de Alcântara showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kauan Recife, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Hermínio de Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorival Toledo in the 40th minute of play. Dorival Toledo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hermínio de Alcântara read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
