In the 17th minute Cícero Azevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Tinoco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dadá Sergipano struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Wilson Tinoco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for São Paulo F.C.. Dadá Sergipano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Wilson Tinoco made a huge save. Dadá Sergipano in the 36thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Wilson Tinoco, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 41st minute, Cícero Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dadá Sergipano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Wilson Tinoco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Dadá Sergipano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Wilson Tinoco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cícero Azevedo in the 52nd minute of play. Cícero Simão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fabiano Donatello having to interfere. The supporters of Jacurutu booed when São Paulo F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waldemar Marquez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilson Tinoco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Waldemar Marquez in the 58th minute of play. In the 64th minute of the match São Paulo F.C. got a corner. Jacurutu's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jânio Favoretto ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 70th minute, Waldir Vander hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in São Paulo F.C.'s zone, Cícero Simão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luiz Fabiano Donatello came out of the goal and Cícero Simão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Jacurutu's Enio da Fonseca got a free kick in the 73rd minute. Wilson Tinoco didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dadá Sergipano went, in the 85th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Wilson Tinoco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cícero Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Wilson Tinoco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cícero Azevedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. São Paulo F.C. had played much better football throughout.
