The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Narciso Fontes was the one to do the kick off. Gremio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Frederico Vale was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Narciso Fontess short, quick shot in the 69thth minute got Dário Maranhense to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Daniel Capixaba could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Dário Maranhense made a huge save. When Laércio Vaz fell near the penalty area in the 71st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gremio's protests and gave Laércio Vaz a yellow card for diving instead. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Claudinei da Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Osmar Quintal having to interfere. If Narciso Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Narciso Fontes in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dário Maranhense prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Daniel Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gremio's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Capixaba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dário Maranhense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gremio's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
