Filipe Velasco started the match with the kick off. 6 minutes into the match, Ipaussu's goal looked a bit too open when Fabiano Bittencourt came free, but Washington da Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Válter Quadros fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ajacio's protests and gave Válter Quadros a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Ipaussu booed when Ajacio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Válter Quadros didn't get a good kick on the ball. Washington da Costa made an important save on a dangerous shot by William de Medeiros in the 14th minute. Ipaussu's Silvinho Vinhas got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 27 minutes, Fabiano Bittencourt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ajacio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fabiano Bittencourt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Ipaussu getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Júlio Siqueira hit a great ball. 34 minutes into the game, Chiquinho Antunes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ajacio's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ipaussu the free kick. In the 33rd minute, one of Ajacio:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Ajacio. The referee gave Ipaussu a penalty, 36 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Romário de Brito, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Ajacio's Ronaldinho Guimarães. 0-1. In the 42nd minute, Ajacio's Fabiano Bittencourt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Washington da Costa. Washington da Costa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. 45 minutes into the game, Ipaussu's Filipe Velasco nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ronaldinho Guimarães made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. The Ajacio players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ipaussu were winning 1-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fabiano Bittencourt was the one to do the kick off. In the 51stth minute of the game William de Medeiros who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ipaussu's Washington da Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Silvinho Vinhas might have been able to make a better finish in the 58th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ronaldinho Guimarães. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Silvinho Vinhas ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Ajacio's zone, Filipe Velasco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronaldinho Guimarães came out of the goal and Filipe Velasco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute, Romário de Brito hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronaldinho Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Júlio Siqueira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ajacio's Fabiano Bittencourt got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fabiano Bittencourt might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Washington da Costa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fabiano Bittencourt ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 83rdth minute of the game William de Medeiros who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ipaussu's Washington da Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 89th match minute, Ajacio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zé Roberto Guerra to maneuver through the defense. The Ajacio supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Ipaussu's performance. The match ended with a win for Ipaussu.
