Paulo Moura stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fernandinho Freitas's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. In the 9th minute, Robinho Xavier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zé de Alcântara struck a weak shot in the 10th minute. Nildo Arruda didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bengalas. If Fernandinho Freitas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute, Enio Prestes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Paulo Moura was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fernandinho Freitas was the one to do the kick off. Zé de Alcântara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Nildo Arruda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deivid Valle in the 59th minute of play forced Bengalas's goalkeeper Paulo Moura to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Esporte Clube Vitória's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
