Paulo José Cerezo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ipaussu. Ipaussu's Deivid Vinhas pulled a muscle in his back after 21 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Nilmar Luz charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nilmar Luz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 21 played minutes Barcelona got a freekick which was hit by Nilmar Luz. Paulo José Cerezo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvinho Vinhas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With an all-out effort, Barcelona's Washington da Costa threw himself towards the right post 25 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Nilmar Luz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. A collision led to Ipaussu getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. João Neves hit a great ball. Fernando de Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Washington da Costa having to interfere. Nilmar Luz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Washington da Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Silvinho Vinhas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 42nd minute Nilmar Luz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Washington da Costa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 44 minutes into the game, Fernando de Souza cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Washington da Costa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Nilmar Luz made the kick off in the second half. Silvinho Vinhas took the ball and in the 55 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Paulo José Cerezo. Paulo José Cerezo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After a defensive mix-up in Barcelona's zone, João Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo José Cerezo came out of the goal and João Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Silvinho Vinhas let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 67th minute shot 1-3 at rihgt post. Silvinho Vinhas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Paulo José Cerezo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Barcelona booed when Ipaussu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Júlio Siqueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ipaussu's zone, Fernando de Souza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Washington da Costa came out of the goal and Fernando de Souza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Ipaussu eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
