In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind Portuguesa Lions's goalkeeper Jardel Matos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Paulão Barbosa fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Portuguesa Lions's protests and gave Paulão Barbosa a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th minute, Paulão Barbosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luizão Rodrigues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jardel Matos having to interfere. Jardel Matos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zé Augusto Tande, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. If Amílton Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulão Barbosa got his second yellow card in the match during the 27th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 28th match minute, Portuguesa Lions was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulão Barbosa to maneuver through the defense. In the 29thth minute of the game Luizão Rodrigues who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Portuguesa Lions's Jardel Matos was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luizão Rodrigues struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Jardel Matos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sopro F.C.. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luizão Rodrigues in the 38th minute of play forced Portuguesa Lions's goalkeeper Jardel Matos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 42nd minute, Clemente Vaz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After the first half Sopro F.C. were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Zé Augusto Tande received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Jardel Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Danilo Rocha came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Sopro F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Danilo Rocha couldn't finish the play.
