The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute Dito Botelho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Friedrich Nietzsche saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Balco's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tomasia the free kick. In the 40th minute, Chico Schmidt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. João Vítor Linares was the one to do the kick off. Tomasia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dito Botelho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dito Botelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Friedrich Nietzsche having to interfere. Luís da Cunha in the 77thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Sydney Esteves, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dito Botelho in the 79th minute of play forced Balco's goalkeeper Friedrich Nietzsche to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 82 minutes into the match, Balco's Sebastião Gonçalves sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sydney Esteves narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
