Válter Proença showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Genílson Pinho, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Francisco Alcântara blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Válter Proença having to make a save. Válter Proença made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Genílson Pinho in the 18th minute of play. If Francisco Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edgard Melo's late challenge caught a Chamengo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain.
