Nando Botelho stood somewhat misplaced when Valdomiro Guimarães came free in front of goal and shot 1-0 to the left of him in the 24 minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 55th minute, Edgard Melo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, Costas's Frank Abraão tried to score from far away in the 56th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 64 minutes into the match, Nordestina's goalkeeper Válter Proença had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eduardo de Lara. Eduardo de Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Costas's Rômulo Linhares got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Edgard Melo kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Válter Proença made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eduardo de Lara in the 71st minute. Frank Abraão hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Kléber França might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nando Botelho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kléber França ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Kléber França's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nando Botelho was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. Eduardo de Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Costas players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Nordestina.
