In the 9th match minute, Paulista FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geovânio Vianna to maneuver through the defense. Juarês Cordeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Pedro Mangueira having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 14th minute of the game. One of Paulista FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Cardozo:s goal. 18 minutes into the match, Cardozo's Juarês Cordeiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Pedro Mangueira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Juarês Cordeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. José Pedro Mangueira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Paulista FC defense, Juarês Cordeiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of José Pedro Mangueira. The Paulista FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that José Pedro Mangueira should have stopped the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Telmo Vergílio got free with Renato Quirino in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 33 minutes into the match, Cardozo's Juarês Cordeiro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Pedro Mangueira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Clóvis Vides hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Kiko Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cardozo's supporters rose to their feet, but Kiko Gonçalves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. José Pedro Mangueira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Paulista FC's José Pedro Mangueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juarês Cordeiro in the 48th minute of play. After the first half Cardozo were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Juarês Cordeiro to make the kick off. A collision led to Paulista FC getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Flávio Camargo hit a great ball. Kiko Gonçalves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Pedro Mangueira having to interfere. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cardozo's Renato Quirino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jerônimo dos Santos in the 74th minute of play. Jerônimo dos Santos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renato Quirino having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Paulista FC's goal looked a bit too open when Frédson Marinho came free, but José Pedro Mangueira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Juarês Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Cardozo's Juarês Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 86 minutes into the match, Cardozo's Clóvis Vides sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Pedro Mangueira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Juarês Cordeiro came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Cardozo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Juarês Cordeiro couldn't finish the play. If Juarês Cordeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
