The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Guto Meirelles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Telmo Lima in the 9th minute of the match. 15 minutes into the match, Libertines's goal looked a bit too open when Telmo Lima came free, but Guto Meirelles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sebastião Dantas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edu Aguiar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Augusto Carneiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Telmo Catarinense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Augusto Carneiro made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Benevides's Lucas Bezerra got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Virgílio Branco was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 23rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Enrique Veloso charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Enrique Veloso the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Benevides's Enrique Veloso got a free kick in the 24th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Edu Aguiar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Libertines's supporters rose to their feet, but Edu Aguiar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Augusto Carneiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 27th minute, Sebastião Dantas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With splendid footwork Edu Aguiar arrived in front of goal to shoot 1-0 by the left pole in the game's 28th minute. Guto Meirelles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Enrique Veloso in the 31st minute of play. Augusto Carneiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edu Aguiar in the 33rd minute of play. After 33 played minutes Benevides got a freekick which was hit by Caco Pena. Augusto Carneiro was out of position in the 40 minute of play, and Edu Aguiar capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Edu Aguiar really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Telmo Catarinense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Libertines's supporters rose to their feet, but Telmo Catarinense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Augusto Carneiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edu Aguiar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sebastião Dantas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 62nd match minute, Libertines was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leandro de Barros to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 63 minutes, Lucas Bezerra managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benevides's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lucas Bezerra was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Benevides's Guto Meirelles threw himself towards the right post 65 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Telmo Lima, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Thomás de Amaral hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. The supporters of Libertines booed when Benevides was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lucas Bezerra didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Edu Aguiar came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Libertines fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edu Aguiar couldn't finish the play. After 71 played minutes Benevides got a freekick which was hit by Thomás de Amaral. 76 minutes into the game, Enrique Veloso cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Guto Meirelles was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Caco Pena came free with the goalkeeper in the 79th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Guto Meirelles could save by the left post. Augusto Carneiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edu Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. In the 91st minute Telmo Lima shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guto Meirelles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
