The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 52nd minute of the game. One of Matuapira FutBol Club:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Gaivotas da Fiel:s goal. The referee gave Gaivotas da Fiel a penalty, 54 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Faustão de Barros, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Matuapira FutBol Club's Emanuel de Queirós. 1-0. When Danilo Araújo came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Matuapira FutBol Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Danilo Araújo couldn't finish the play. After 58 minutes of play, Matuapira FutBol Club's Bernardo Mendebal made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ciro Meireles was left in no man's land by his defense there! Danilo Araújo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ciro Meireles read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Danilo Araújo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Matuapira FutBol Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Danilo Araújo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ciro Meireles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Bernardo Mendebal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute.
