The supporters of Itahy booed when vila nova was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geovanni Jacinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nelson Secco, 15 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 18 minutes into the match, Itahy's Vivaldo Simão sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Filipe da Mata narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 18th minute, Geovanni Jacinto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Waldir Paraense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filipe da Mata having to interfere. Filipe da Mata stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ruy Barros's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. 25 minutes into the match, Itahy's goalkeeper Abelardo Marques had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Clemente Barreto. Clemente Barreto struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Abelardo Marques didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for vila nova. Nelson Secco kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. After having played for 48 minutes, Ruy Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itahy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ruy Barros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arí de Toledo to make the kick off. Ruy Barros hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Arí de Toledo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Abelardo Marques read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. Filipe da Mata was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Vivaldo Simão showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 59 minute of play. The supporters of vila nova booed when Itahy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lenílson Botelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Abelardo Marques took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Clemente Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ruy Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Filipe da Mata tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clemente Barreto in the 73rd minute of play forced Itahy's goalkeeper Abelardo Marques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 75th minute the ball was on its way in behind Itahy's goalkeeper Abelardo Marques, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Filipe da Mata was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Vivaldo Simão showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-3 in the 77 minute of play. If Vivaldo Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Itahy getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Toninho do Nascimento hit a great ball. Abelardo Marques showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paulo Renato Madureira, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Nelson Secco kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Abelardo Marques took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arí de Toledo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Arí de Toledo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Abelardo Marques was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. Arí de Toledo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 98th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Itahy's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
