An unexpectedly hard shot by Flavinho Sanches in the 14th minute of play forced Zenit St Petersburg's goalkeeper Décio Ortiz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Zenit St Petersburg booed when Rickers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arí Soares didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Zenit St Petersburg's Décio Ortiz got control of the ball when Patrick Schmidt tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Patrick Schmidt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cléber Amorim fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 23rd minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. With a little luck, Zenit St Petersburg's Décio Ortiz got control of the ball when Arí Soares tried to sneak it across the goal line. Percy de Barros kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Cléber Amorim struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Giuseppe Nunes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Zenit St Petersburg. 36 minutes into the game, Flavinho Sanches recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Décio Ortiz. Flavinho Sanches showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. In the 39th minute, Zenit St Petersburg's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Flavinho Sanches fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Marcelinho da Costa to strike the kick off in the second half. Cléber Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giuseppe Nunes having to interfere. In the 60th minute, Arí Soares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the Zenit St Petersburg defense, Flavinho Sanches kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Décio Ortiz. The Zenit St Petersburg fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Décio Ortiz should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Flavinho Sanches in the 67th minute of play forced Zenit St Petersburg's goalkeeper Décio Ortiz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcelinho da Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Décio Ortiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flavinho Sanches, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marcelinho da Costa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Giuseppe Nunes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. After having played for 77 minutes, Patrick Schmidt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rickers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patrick Schmidt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Joaquim Goiano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Giuseppe Nunes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. Caco Falcão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Arí Soares took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Décio Ortiz. Décio Ortiz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. Percy de Barros's late challenge caught a Zenit St Petersburg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Percy de Barros helped the player get up and apologised. The Rickers players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
