The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Horácio de Lara made a kick off. In the 54th match minute, Pompeiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antônio Pena to maneuver through the defense. In the 55th minute, a hard, long distance shot from Kaká da Silva hit the top of the crossbar and flew over the goal. Tomás Lago could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Joélson Saldanha made a huge save. Valdemar Romero might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Raí Linhares. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Valdemar Romero ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 66 minutes, Valdemar Romero managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pompeiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdemar Romero was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Pompeiro's Joélson Saldanha got control of the ball when Tomás Lago tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tomás Lago blasted a shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joélson Saldanha having to make a save. Horácio de Lara recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Joélson Saldanha was a little too slow when Horácio de Lara got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 91st minute. The score was now 2-1. Joélson Saldanha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomás Lago in the 95th minute. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Pompeiro had won after a very even match.
