The audience thought a goal was coming when Flávio Esteves got free with Iuri Godoi in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd rose to their feet as Diamantino Alagoano kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Iuri Godoi. That made the score 1-0 in the 14 minute of play. Afonsinho Arósio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renan Ortiz having to interfere. Flávio Esteves might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Iuri Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Flávio Esteves ran back to his position shaking his head. Christiano Neiva charged in rather forcefully in the 35th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
