Benê Torres might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ernesto Cosme. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Benê Torres ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Benê Torres managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kevao So Pao's supporters rose to their feet, but Benê Torres was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ernesto Cosme breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ernesto Cosme stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Murilo Bertassi's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Vasco da Gama F.C.'s Ernesto Cosme proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Vasco da Gama F.C. from getting a goal against them. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Ernesto Cosme took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Murilo Bertassi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Kevao So Pao lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
