Guga Vander could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Luizinho Negri made a huge save. After 21 minutes, Carlos Severo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Expressinho-ES F.C and the Atlético Lucena FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Expressinho-ES F.C booed when Atlético Lucena FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mauro Velloso didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 37 minutes, Guga Vander managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Expressinho-ES F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Guga Vander was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alfredão de Queiroz came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by Atlético Lucena FC's Vítor Tasso. But to his dismay, Vítor Tasso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Alfredão de Queiroz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luisão Meirelles in the 45th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcelinho Cardoso to make the kick off. Marcelinho Cardoso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 63rd minute, Guga Vander left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Expressinho-ES F.C fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Luizinho Negri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guga Vander, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
