In the 6th minute Virgílio Alves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basílio Luz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Itayopolis EC's goal looked a bit too open when Adelino Sanches came free, but Basílio Luz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jeferson Marques succeeded in the game's 13th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. Adelino Sanches received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Basílio Luz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luisinho de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sandro Coelho having to interfere. Itayopolis EC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Virgílio Alves was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arnaldo Prestes during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Arnaldo Prestes hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. The supporters of Itayopolis EC booed when Coritiba FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeferson Marques didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sidnei Teixeira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Sandro Coelho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 39th minute, Adelino Sanches got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jeferson Marques could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Basílio Luz made a huge save. Adelino Sanches might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Basílio Luz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adelino Sanches ran back to his position shaking his head. 46 minutes into the match, Itayopolis EC's goalkeeper Basílio Luz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Virgílio Alves. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When Adelino Sanches fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Coritiba FC's protests and gave Adelino Sanches a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Coritiba FC's Adelino Sanches got a free kick in the 53rd minute. If Virgílio Alves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Coritiba FC's Virgílio Alves got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Coritiba FC's Sandro Coelho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Coritiba FC from getting a goal against them. Luisinho de Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Coritiba FC had won after a very even match.
