Geovanni Mineiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Váldson Maciel in the 14th minute of play. After 17 played minutes Estrela da Manhã -DMZ- got a freekick which was hit by Ivo Bastos. If Víktor Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Estrela da Manhã -DMZ- getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Henrique Sena hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Renato Matos in the 25th minute of play forced Estrela da Manhã -DMZ-'s goalkeeper Geovanni Mineiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ivo Bastos got his second yellow card in the match during the 26th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Ivo Bastos hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Pedrinho Peres was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 27th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Geovanni Mineiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Váldson Maciel, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. The ITUMBIARA E.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. If Carlos Brasil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 94th match minute, Estrela da Manhã -DMZ- was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jorge Souza to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Váldson Maciel managed to get in a good position for a shot. ITUMBIARA E.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Váldson Maciel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geovanni Mineiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
