Bebeto Nogueira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dé Correia having to interfere. NOVORIZONTINO's Dé Correia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bebeto Nogueira in the 14th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in S E Palmeiras's zone, Michel Britto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Evandro de Almeida came out of the goal and Michel Britto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, NOVORIZONTINO's José Pedro Almeida got a free kick in the 26th minute. Bebeto Nogueira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Dé Correia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bebeto Nogueira in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dé Correia saved NOVORIZONTINO from getting behind. Frédson Moreno walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. If Bebeto Nogueira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 45 minutes into the game, Roger de Queiroz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Dé Correia was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bebeto Nogueira was the one to do the kick off. After 51 played minutes NOVORIZONTINO got a freekick which was hit by José Pedro Almeida. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Lino dos Santos managed to get in a good position for a shot. NOVORIZONTINO's supporters rose to their feet, but Lino dos Santos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Evandro de Almeida breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 62nd minute of the match Reynaldo Cardozo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dé Correia skillfully saved the ball. The supporters of S E Palmeiras booed when NOVORIZONTINO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Fábio Hermes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dé Correia made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Bebeto Nogueira sent off a good shot on target. Michel Britto took the ball and in the 68 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Evandro de Almeida. Evandro de Almeida dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. When Benê Velasco came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the NOVORIZONTINO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benê Velasco couldn't finish the play. If Giovani Peixoto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 79th minute Michel Britto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evandro de Almeida saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to S E Palmeiras getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Giovani Peixoto hit a great ball. Evandro de Almeida took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Augusto Dracena, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
