The GUARANI FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nilson Romero should have stopped the shot. If Rodrigo Ramalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Samuca Cunha's late challenge caught a vasco's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Samuca Cunha helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to GUARANI FC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Samuca Cunha hit a great ball. 17 minutes into the match, vasco's goalkeeper Dênis Prata had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Samuel Mota. The supporters of vasco booed when GUARANI FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonathan dos Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Didi Lira took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 24th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nilson Romero. GUARANI FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Joaquim Vinhas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 29 minutes into the game, Eliseu Teles was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. vasco's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GUARANI FC the free kick. After 29 played minutes vasco got a freekick which was hit by Eliseu Teles. In the 30th minute, Jonathan dos Santos sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and vasco's Dênis Prata didn't even have to move. If Davi Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dênis Prata came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by GUARANI FC's Samuel Mota. But to his dismay, Samuel Mota quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Caio Romero hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. If Rodrigo Ramalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Joaquim Vinhas came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the vasco fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joaquim Vinhas couldn't finish the play. Eusébio Barral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Nilson Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joaquim Vinhas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 51st minute of the game. One of GUARANI FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of vasco:s goal. After 55 played minutes GUARANI FC got a freekick which was hit by Váldson Bueno. After a rather tough play, GUARANI FC's Claudinei de Sena got a free kick in the 60th minute. Nilson Romero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodrigo Ramalho in the 61st minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, vasco's goal looked a bit too open when Samuel Mota came free, but Dênis Prata reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dênis Prata showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Váldson Bueno in the 66th minute of the match. Walmyr de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of GUARANI FC booed when vasco was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcelo Sergipano didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Ramalho in the 73rd minute of play forced GUARANI FC's goalkeeper Nilson Romero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, GUARANI FC's Nilson Romero got control of the ball when Walmyr de Medeiros tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 93 played minutes vasco got a freekick which was hit by Walmyr de Medeiros. Davi Pinho lost his temper 98 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 98th minute, one of vasco:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for vasco. When the referee blew the final whistle, GUARANI FC could leave the field as winners, despite vasco having more of the ball for most of the match.
