In the 17th minute, Kaká Pinho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 19th minute of the match João Pedro Queirós shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dênis Prata showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Dênis Prata made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaká Pinho in the 20th minute of play. The goal made the score 2-0. vasco's Eusébio Barral got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 39 minutes, Eusébio Barral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. vasco's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eusébio Barral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Artur Pontes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Carlos Alberto Eger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Artur Pontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kaká Pinho was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, vasco's Caco Araújo got a free kick in the 50th minute. 53 minutes into the game, Joaquim Vinhas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0.
