The referee ignored Palestra Itália FC's protests and gave Ramón Vergílio a yellow card for diving instead. 13 minutes into the game, one of Palestra Itália FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 15th minute there was a penalty for Sambô Laion FC. Henry Hammen stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Joel Godoi. 1-0. After some careless play in the Palestra Itália FC defense, Wellington Duarte kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joel Godoi. The Palestra Itália FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joel Godoi should have stopped the shot. After 22 played minutes Palestra Itália FC got a freekick which was hit by Conrado Tepedino. Palestra Itália FC's Joel Godoi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Palestra Itália FC from getting a goal against them. Joel Godoi stood somewhat misplaced when Gilmar Corrêa came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 27 minute. Wellington Duarte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joel Godoi having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernandinho Perez during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 37 played minutes Palestra Itália FC got a freekick which was hit by Fernandinho Perez. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Gilmar Corrêa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sambô Laion FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Gilmar Corrêa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joel Godoi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gilmar Corrêa spun around in front of the goal 39 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Palestra Itália FC's goal. Sambô Laion FC's Twan Schmidt quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Leandro Ramos, made in the 41st minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Palestra Itália FC's zone, Wellington Duarte stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joel Godoi came out of the goal and Wellington Duarte tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 45th minute, Magno Figueiredo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

After having played for 61 minutes, Wellington Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sambô Laion FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wellington Duarte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gilmar Corrêa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joel Godoi having to make a save. After 74 minutes of play, Sambô Laion FC's Wellington Duarte made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joel Godoi was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gilmar Corrêa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Joel Godoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Joel Godoi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilmar Corrêa in the 81st minute of the match. Joel Godoi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wellington Duarte in the 82nd minute of play. In the 84th minute, Gilmar Corrêa made a precise shot to the right of Joel Godoi. Palestra Itália FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. In the 92nd minute Wellington Duarte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joel Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
