Spectators: 7280 (Terracing: 5461, Seating: 1674, VIP seats: 145) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Ediberto Gaspar started the match with the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo José Bittencourt in the 3rd minute of play forced Tubarão EC's goalkeeper Rubens Batista to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Utary getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Humberto Figueiredo hit a great ball. Mauro Ferreira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cristóvão Rosa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 15th minute, Cristóvão Rosa fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Silvério Amorim might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Serginho Amorim. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Silvério Amorim ran back to his position shaking his head. 26 minutes into the game, Utary's Humberto Figueiredo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rubens Batista made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Ediberto Gaspar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Serginho Amorim made a huge save. An unexpected shot in the 39th minute by Mauro Ferreira got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After the first half Utary were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Adilson Carvalho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Utary booed when Tubarão EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rômulo Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Ezequiel Fonseca from long distance, 53 minutes into the match, got Rubens Batista's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 63rd minute, Tubarão EC's Zé Carlos da Mata seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Zé Carlos da Mata the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Tubarão EC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Zé Carlos da Mata had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 65th minute, Ezequiel Fonseca fired a really elegant long shot, but Rubens Batista threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. The supporters of Tubarão EC booed when Utary was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ezequiel Fonseca didn't get a good kick on the ball. 76 minutes into the game, Ediberto Gaspar cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Serginho Amorim was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Tubarão EC's Mauro Ferreira got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Tubarão EC's zone, Humberto Figueiredo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rubens Batista came out of the goal and Humberto Figueiredo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Adilson Carvalho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rubens Batista was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. After 95 played minutes Tubarão EC got a freekick which was hit by Rômulo Dias. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Tubarão EC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
