After 20 played minutes Newtown EC got a freekick which was hit by Elói Schmidt. 22 minutes into the game, Newtown EC's Elói Schmidt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Wilson Silva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. The referee gave Newtown EC a penalty, 27 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Acácio Linares, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of E.C.Bahia's Wilson Silva. 2-0. E.C.Bahia's Marco de Queiroz suffered a sprained foot after 31 minutes and couldn't finish the game. 32 minutes into the game, Corbett Chamberlain was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newtown EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave E.C.Bahia the free kick. A collision led to Newtown EC getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Elói Schmidt to make the kick off. Ademir Leite's late challenge caught a Newtown EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. E.C.Bahia's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After 89 minutes, Arnaldo Alves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the E.C.Bahia and the Newtown EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Newtown EC had played much better football throughout.
