Maurinho Magalhães kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Fabiano Pimenta acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 10th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Magno Moura. With a little luck, Piaui's Fabiano Pimenta got control of the ball when Fred Prestes tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 13 minutes, Giovanni Brito mouthed his way into the referee's book. Piaui's defense didn't have a chance, in the 34th minute, when Tomás Baptista scored to the left of an out of position Fabiano Pimenta, making the score, 1-0. Bernardinho de Barros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomás Baptista to make the kick off. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
