The supporters of Guarulhos FC booed when Meriti FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duarte Catarinense didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 30 played minutes Guarulhos FC got a freekick which was hit by Gustavo Prata. After 34 minutes, Waldemar de Senna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Meriti FC and the Guarulhos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Meriti FC getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Waldemar de Senna hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Amílton Miranda took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Dé Neves to make any attempt to save it. After 49 played minutes Meriti FC got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Augusto Vander. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Amílton Miranda stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Meriti FC's Dé Neves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amílton Miranda in the 59th minute of play. Duarte Catarinense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Enio Pitta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 65th minute, Ronaldão Paraíba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Faustão de Amaral in the 69th minute of play forced Meriti FC's goalkeeper Dé Neves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 74th minute, Hortêncio Porto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Josué Fontes took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 75th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dé Neves. Meriti FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Duarte Catarinense took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Enio Pitta. Enio Pitta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. In the 80th minute Faustão de Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dé Neves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ronaldão Paraíba kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. If Faustão de Amaral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amílton Miranda received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Dé Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Meriti FC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Guarulhos FC's much stronger midfield.
