In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Benfica AD's goalkeeper Aloísio de Mendonça, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cercadinho's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Walmir Pirani in the 17th minute. After taking down the ball on Cercadinho's corner Valiente Venezian fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Aloísio de Mendonça quite easily take care of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Benfica AD's zone, Valiente Venezian stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aloísio de Mendonça came out of the goal and Valiente Venezian tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 22nd minute, Abelardo Bertassi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aloísio de Mendonça was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After some careless play in the Benfica AD defense, Abelardo Bertassi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aloísio de Mendonça. The supporters of Cercadinho booed when Benfica AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hermínio França didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Benfica AD defense, Valiente Venezian kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aloísio de Mendonça. Cercadinho's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abelardo Bertassi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Aloísio de Mendonça took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valiente Venezian, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
