The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Jorginho da Mata took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 4th minute, Luiz Maia left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palmeiras Mundial 1951 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Richard Neves hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Naldo Barral in the 15th minute of play forced Palmeiras Mundial 1951's goalkeeper Pedro Luís Magalhães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With his leg Simão Cardozo managed to avoid a goal in the 16thth minute, when Palmeiras Mundial 1951's Luiz Maia fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Dorival Barros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Cristian Cerezo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Palmeiras Mundial 1951's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Cerezo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Simão Cardozo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luiz Maia in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Simão Cardozo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Pedro Luís Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvério Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luiz Maia in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Simão Cardozo saved Aracazinho from getting behind. Luiz Maia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simão Cardozo having to interfere. Pedro Luís Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Richard Neves, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 39th minute, Richard Neves ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pedro Luís Magalhães was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After some careless play in the Aracazinho defense, Luiz Maia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Simão Cardozo. The Aracazinho fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Simão Cardozo should have stopped the shot.

The wind increased when Luiz Maia made the kick off in the second half. Naldo Barral could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Pedro Luís Magalhães made a huge save. In the 57th match minute, Aracazinho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Naldo Barral to maneuver through the defense. When Silvério Damião fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Aracazinho's protests and gave Silvério Damião a yellow card for diving instead. Pedro Luís Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvério Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Palmeiras Mundial 1951's defense didn't have a chance, in the 62nd minute, when Silvério Damião scored to the left of an out of position Pedro Luís Magalhães, making the score, 2-2. 65 minutes into the match, Palmeiras Mundial 1951's goal looked a bit too open when Silvério Damião came free, but Pedro Luís Magalhães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67th minute of the match, Remo Quirino got a very nice opportunity to score, but Pedro Luís Magalhães was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 68th minute Silvério Damião shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Luís Magalhães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
