Palmeiras Mundial 1951's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Cerezo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Simão Cardozo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luiz Maia in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Simão Cardozo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Pedro Luís Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvério Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luiz Maia in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Simão Cardozo saved Aracazinho from getting behind. Luiz Maia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simão Cardozo having to interfere. Pedro Luís Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Richard Neves, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 39th minute, Richard Neves ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pedro Luís Magalhães was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After some careless play in the Aracazinho defense, Luiz Maia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Simão Cardozo. The Aracazinho fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Simão Cardozo should have stopped the shot.

The wind increased when Luiz Maia made the kick off in the second half. Naldo Barral could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Pedro Luís Magalhães made a huge save. In the 57th match minute, Aracazinho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Naldo Barral to maneuver through the defense. When Silvério Damião fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Aracazinho's protests and gave Silvério Damião a yellow card for diving instead.
