Flávio Fonseca might have been able to make a better finish in the 13th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Murillo Antunes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Flávio Fonseca ran back to his position shaking his head. Murillo Antunes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Flávio Fonseca in the 16th minute. In the 25th minute, Diamantino Duarte hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ciro Trancoso's late challenge caught a Corinthians's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
