C Sinopense O Retorno FC were awarded a corner in the 20th minute after Variant 1971's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Horácio Coelho took the corner. After taking down the ball on C Sinopense O Retorno FC's corner Horácio Coelho fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Eriberto Chaves quite easily take care of the ball. Filipe Santos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, C Sinopense O Retorno FC's Victor Alves got a free kick in the 27th minute. Victor Alves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eriberto Chaves having to make a save. Eriberto Chaves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Antônio Carlos de Godoi went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Nilmar Monteiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eriberto Chaves having to make a save. Eriberto Chaves was a little too slow when Antônio Carlos de Godoi got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 34th minute. The score was now 3-0. When Antônio Carlos de Godoi came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the C Sinopense O Retorno FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antônio Carlos de Godoi couldn't finish the play. After having played for 44 minutes, Filipe Santos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Variant 1971's supporters crossed their fingers, but Filipe Santos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Antônio Carlos de Godoi to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antônio Carlos de Godoi in the 52nd minute of play forced Variant 1971's goalkeeper Eriberto Chaves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
