Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Fernando Rezende started the match with the kick off. In the 4th minute, Elano Queiroz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Vasco Da Gama's zone, Cléber Sanches stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valdir Braga came out of the goal and Cléber Sanches tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vasco Da Gama's Elano Queiroz got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the EC Framengo defense, Edgard Marinho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Juarês Neves. The EC Framengo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Juarês Neves should have stopped the shot. Valdir Braga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Diogo Falcão, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Juarês Neves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgard Marinho in the 22nd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in EC Framengo's zone, Edgard Marinho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juarês Neves came out of the goal and Edgard Marinho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Elano Queiroz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31st minute Cléber Sanches shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdir Braga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edgard Marinho in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Juarês Neves saved EC Framengo from getting behind. Juarês Neves stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edgard Marinho's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Valdir Braga made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fernando Rezende in the 42nd minute. In the 46th minute, one of EC Framengo:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for EC Framengo. Edgard Marinho walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Edgard Marinho made the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Didi de Lima left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vasco Da Gama fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Juarês Neves made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Elano Queiroz sent off a good shot on target. Elano Queiroz took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Juarês Neves. Juarês Neves dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Edgard Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juarês Neves having to interfere. Valdir Braga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cléber Sanches in the 66th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 68 minutes, Elano Queiroz took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for Juarês Neves to make any attempt to save it. After a rather tough play, Vasco Da Gama's Guga Pontes got a free kick in the 70th minute. EC Framengo's Cléber Sanches got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A hard shot 77 in the game by Edgard Marinho from a close distance when the talented Juarês Neves managed to make a qualified save. EC Framengo's players were relieved. After having played for 78 minutes, Didi de Lima managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vasco Da Gama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Didi de Lima was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Juarês Neves made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edgard Marinho in the 81st minute. Acácio Correia kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. Elano Queiroz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Juarês Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diogo Falcão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdir Braga having to interfere. In the 90th match minute, Vasco Da Gama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andrézinho Gerber to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Vasco Da Gama getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. João Francisco Dias hit a great ball. Vasco Da Gama's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
