Pedrão da Silva started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Laerte Linhares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sílvio Luís Gaúcho having to interfere. Dalmo Abreu charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dalmo Abreu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Mendonca getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Dalmo Abreu hit a great ball. Arnaldo Lago recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Clemente Montenegro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Ronaldão Tinoco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Ibiracu getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Gabriel Moura hit a great ball. Clemente Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldão Tinoco having to interfere. In the 15th minute Laerte Linhares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sílvio Luís Gaúcho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Mendonca defense, Arnaldo Lago kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sílvio Luís Gaúcho. The Mendonca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sílvio Luís Gaúcho should have stopped the shot. In the 23rd minute Laerte Linhares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sílvio Luís Gaúcho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ibiracu's goalkeeper Ronaldão Tinoco, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 31 minutes into the match, Ibiracu's goal looked a bit too open when Pedrão da Silva came free, but Ronaldão Tinoco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute, Clemente Montenegro made a precise shot to the right of Ronaldão Tinoco. Ibiracu's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. If Clemente Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 42 minutes into the game, Clemente Montenegro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mendonca's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ibiracu the free kick. After a rather tough play, Mendonca's Clemente Montenegro got a free kick in the 42nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arnaldo Lago in the 44th minute of play forced Mendonca's goalkeeper Sílvio Luís Gaúcho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnaldo Lago struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Sílvio Luís Gaúcho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ibiracu. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arnaldo Lago was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute, Arnaldo Lago got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sílvio Luís Gaúcho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnaldo Lago, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Ronaldão Tinoco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedrão da Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sílvio Luís Gaúcho was out of position in the 76 minute of play, and Laerte Linhares capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Laerte Linhares really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. If Arnaldo Lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 83 minutes into the game, Cléber Nunes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mendonca's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ibiracu the free kick. In the 83rd match minute, Mendonca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cléber Nunes to maneuver through the defense. Raimundo Prado's late challenge caught a Mendonca's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Raimundo Prado helped the player get up and apologised. 91 minutes into the game, Laerte Linhares cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Sílvio Luís Gaúcho was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Sílvio Luís Gaúcho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnaldo Lago, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute.
