Christer Palmkvist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Donny Neira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 11 minutes of play, Divinopolis's Gustavo Barreto made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Artur Tinoco was left in no man's land by his defense there! Donny Neira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Tadeu Cearense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Gustavo Barreto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Artur Tinoco was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. In the 16th minute Alexandre Santana suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. A collision led to Divinopolis getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Yan Domingues hit a great ball. 19 minutes into the match, Divinopolis's goalkeeper Tadeu Cearense had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fabrizio Ruzzi. In the 23rd minute, Gustavo Barreto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fabrizio Ruzzi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tadeu Cearense having to interfere. If Donny Neira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 29 minutes into the match, Rio das Ostras FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gustavo Barreto came free, but Artur Tinoco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 30 played minutes Rio das Ostras FC got a freekick which was hit by Roland Apelquist. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Rio das Ostras FC's goalkeeper Artur Tinoco, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Otávio Trancoso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Divinopolis's supporters rose to their feet, but Otávio Trancoso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Artur Tinoco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Otávio Trancoso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tadeu Cearense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christer Palmkvist in the 40th minute of play. Otávio Trancoso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gustavo Barreto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Artur Tinoco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Gustavo Barreto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Artur Tinoco having to interfere. Tadeu Cearense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donny Neira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Christer Palmkvist managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rio das Ostras FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Christer Palmkvist was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tadeu Cearense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Rio das Ostras FC getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Roland Apelquist hit a great ball. Artur Tinoco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gustavo Barreto in the 69th minute. In the 71st minute Otávio Trancoso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Artur Tinoco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 85 minutes, Gustavo Barreto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Divinopolis and the Rio das Ostras FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Rio das Ostras FC booed when Divinopolis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gustavo Barreto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Otávio Trancoso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
