Spectators: 7478 (Terracing: 5610, Seating: 1719, VIP seats: 149) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Bruninho Barbosa started the match with the kick off. Severino Cunha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Belmiro Porto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Severino Cunha didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Belmiro Porto went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Bruninho Barbosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 22 minutes of play, Goiatuba E.C.'s José Paulo Dracena made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Severino Cunha was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 28 played minutes Goiatuba E.C. got a freekick which was hit by Caco Arantes. Bruninho Barbosa charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bruninho Barbosa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 33rd minute, José Augusto de Brito ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Severino Cunha was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. José Paulo Dracena took the ball and in the 41 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Severino Cunha. Severino Cunha dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. Disappointed in the 0-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when José Augusto de Brito stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. José Augusto de Brito recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 64 minutes, Ramon Lugo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Goiatuba E.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Ramon Lugo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Severino Cunha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Paulo Dracena, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as José Paulo Dracena kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Severino Cunha. That made the score 0-6 in the 67 minute of play. After some careless play in the Orlando Pirates defense, José Augusto de Brito kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Severino Cunha. The Orlando Pirates fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Severino Cunha should have stopped the shot. In the 75th minute, José Augusto de Brito left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Goiatuba E.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-8. José Augusto de Brito succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-9 in the 84th playminute. With a little luck, Orlando Pirates's Severino Cunha got control of the ball when José Augusto de Brito tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 89th minute Goiatuba E.C. were awarded a corner. Ramon Lugo went to the cornerflag to take it. Goiatuba E.C.'s Ramon Lugo was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Severino Cunha in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With an all-out effort, Goiatuba E.C.'s Severino Cunha threw himself towards the right post 91 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from José Paulo Dracena, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The supporters of Orlando Pirates booed when Goiatuba E.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Paulo Dracena didn't get a good kick on the ball. Orlando Pirates's Severino Cunha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 97th minute of the match, managed to save Orlando Pirates from getting a goal against them. The Goiatuba E.C. players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
