Remo Mota's late challenge caught a Sampaio Fc's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Remo Mota helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to CUIABÁ EC getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Remo Mota hit a great ball. In the 38th minute, Sandrinho Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luiz Fabiano Viana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kléber Peres having to interfere. Tomé Mandrak blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kléber Peres having to make a save. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Luiz Fabiano Viana managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sampaio Fc's supporters rose to their feet, but Luiz Fabiano Viana was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kléber Peres breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luiz Fabiano Viana to make the kick off. Kléber Peres came out of the goal in the 52nd minute to try and stop a shot by Sampaio Fc's Luiz Fabiano Viana.
