A collision led to Vila Nova F.C getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Nico Soeiro hit a great ball. Roberto Batista showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Fabiano Viana, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. When Felipe Koehler came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Vila Nova F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felipe Koehler couldn't finish the play. In the 17th minute, Tomé Mandrak hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Roberto Batista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juarês Zanette, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 24 minutes of play, Vila Nova F.C's Felipe Koehler made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. César Furlan was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Cruz Gene in the 29th minute of play forced Sampaio Fc's goalkeeper César Furlan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roberto Batista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toninho Pombal in the 41st minute of the match. After having played for 45 minutes, Cruz Gene managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vila Nova F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cruz Gene was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sampaio Fc's César Furlan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cruz Gene in the 46th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luiz Fabiano Viana to make the kick off. The supporters of Sampaio Fc booed when Vila Nova F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nico Soeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. 57 minutes into the match, Vila Nova F.C's goalkeeper Roberto Batista had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luiz Fabiano Viana. 58 minutes into the match, Luiz Fabiano Viana had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Roberto Batista. Vila Nova F.C's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luiz Fabiano Viana was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. 61 minutes into the match, Luiz Fabiano Viana notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Vila Nova F.C's Roberto Batista. Roberto Batista was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Roberto de Medeiros hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Roberto Batista stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luiz Fabiano Viana's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Roberto Batista made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fabiano Viana in the 69th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Sampaio Fc's Luiz Fabiano Viana slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Roberto Batista. That made the score 1-3 after 71 minutes of play. Vila Nova F.C's Roberto Batista proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Vila Nova F.C from getting a goal against them. Nico Soeiro kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. Cruz Gene sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luiz Fabiano Viana received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Roberto Batista came out and tried to block the shot, but Luiz Fabiano Viana slotted it home off the left post making it 1-4 in the 84th minute. In the 95th minute, Luiz Fabiano Viana ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roberto Batista was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-6. When the final whistle sounded Sampaio Fc left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Vila Nova F.C.
