After a rather tough play, Santanna's José Maria Mota got a free kick in the 29th minute. Hélio Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Norberto Fantini in the 30th minute of play. Norberto Fantini received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Hélio Leão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 38 played minutes Santanna got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fábio Dionísio. In the 42nd minute, Mário Schmidt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fábio Leal in the 44th minute of play forced Santanna's goalkeeper Hélio Leão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 55 minutes, Luiz Fábio Dionísio put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Agnaldo Chaves.
