Clemente Velasco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Augusto Esteves having to interfere. In the 16th minute, Carlos Eduardo Leme got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 17 minutes, Faustão Corrêa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio Imortal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Faustão Corrêa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Chaves EC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Pedro Righetti hit a great ball. Carlos Augusto Esteves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Clemente Velasco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Faustão Corrêa hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Clemente Velasco in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Augusto Esteves saved Grêmio Imortal from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Clemente Velasco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carlos Augusto Esteves was relentless in the 47th minute of the game.

55 minutes into the game, Abel Custódio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Chaves EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grêmio Imortal the free kick. If Tião Velasco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. Franklin Siqueira kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. A collision led to Grêmio Imortal getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Dalmo Freitas hit a great ball. Franklin Siqueiras short, quick shot in the 86thth minute got Carlos Augusto Esteves to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a defensive mix-up in Chaves EC's zone, Faustão Corrêa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Koray Demirtuğ came out of the goal and Faustão Corrêa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Chaves EC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Chaves EC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
