If Bebeto Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Giovani Mangueira fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sants's protests and gave Giovani Mangueira a yellow card for diving instead. Giovani Mangueira kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. In the 8th match minute, Retrô Recife AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hélder Bastos to maneuver through the defense. When Agostinho Soares came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Sants fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agostinho Soares couldn't finish the play. Adelino Paraense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Agostinho Soares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Doriva Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Adelino Paraense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Retrô Recife AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Adelino Paraense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pedrinho Capixaba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pedrinho Capixaba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bebeto Pinho, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. 23 minutes into the match, Sants's goal looked a bit too open when Bebeto Pinho came free, but Pedrinho Capixaba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Serafim Mota's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Doriva Quadros was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. Bebeto Pinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedrinho Capixaba having to interfere. A collision led to Sants getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Arthur Diniz hit a great ball. Giovani Mangueira kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Gil Albuquerque, 37 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The supporters of Retrô Recife AD booed when Sants was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giovani Mangueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Retrô Recife AD's Adelino Paraense got a free kick in the 46th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bebeto Pinho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Retrô Recife AD's goal looked a bit too open when Serafim Mota came free, but Doriva Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 55 minutes into the match, Sants's goalkeeper Pedrinho Capixaba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adelino Paraense. After a defensive mix-up in Sants's zone, Adelino Paraense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedrinho Capixaba came out of the goal and Adelino Paraense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Retrô Recife AD's goalkeeper Doriva Quadros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Doriva Quadros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agostinho Soares, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agostinho Soares in the 67th minute of play forced Retrô Recife AD's goalkeeper Doriva Quadros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gil Albuquerque lost his temper 69 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 68 minutes into the game, one of Retrô Recife AD:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Sants a penalty, 79 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Cleiton Correia, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Retrô Recife AD's Doriva Quadros. 2-0. 92 minutes into the match, Retrô Recife AD's goal looked a bit too open when Serafim Mota came free, but Doriva Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Retrô Recife AD's Doriva Quadros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agostinho Soares in the 98th minute of play. Sants's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
