The supporters of Fluviopolis booed when Cruzeiro mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Error Mas didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 7th minute of the match Umberto Gerber shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jorge Coutinho showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 9th minute Mazinho Jacinto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorge Coutinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro mineiro's Magno Almeida got a free kick in the 9th minute. Cruzeiro mineiro's Silvinho Tróia managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by César de Queiroz in the 14 minute of the game. When Clóvis Luz fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cruzeiro mineiro's protests and gave Clóvis Luz a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Cruzeiro mineiro's Clóvis Luz got a free kick in the 19th minute. In the 36th match minute, Cruzeiro mineiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Paulo Leme to maneuver through the defense. Rene Dabi took the ball and in the 39 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dedé Ribeiro. Dedé Ribeiro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. If Wilton Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cruzeiro mineiro's Jorge Coutinho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Umberto Gerber in the 47th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Clóvis Luz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Cruzeiro mineiro's Jorge Coutinho got control of the ball when Wilton Fonseca tried to sneak it across the goal line. Despite this Jorge Coutinho quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The Cruzeiro mineiro fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Fluviopolis were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
