After 19 minutes of play, CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE's Wiliam de Mendonça made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Enrique Pontes was left in no man's land by his defense there! Brazabrantes's Sebastião Travassos got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Brazabrantes's Sérgio Lima got a free kick in the 25th minute. The supporters of CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE booed when Brazabrantes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sérgio Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball. Erasmo Furlan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Enrique Pontes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 29 minutes into the game, CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE's Ronaldo Alagoano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Enrique Pontes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. In the 33rd minute Amílton Torres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Enrique Pontes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sérgio Lima had several of the CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 34 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-3 score and a disappointed Shannon Barnard as he didn't even see the shot coming. Shannon Barnard showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Conrado Hermes, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Sérgio Limas short, quick shot in the 40thth minute got Shannon Barnard to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Zé Pedro Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 45th minute, Wiliam de Mendonça left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sebastião Travassos during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Conrado Hermes ran back to his position shaking his head. Zé Pedro Leão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Ismael Falcão hit a great ball. In the 70th match minute, CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldo Alagoano to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Brazabrantes booed when CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Didi Marques didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sérgio Lima in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Shannon Barnard saved CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE from getting behind. Christian de Amorim placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Shannon Barnard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sebastião Travassos in the 80th minute of the match. In the 81st minute, Afonsinho Mandrak hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronaldo Alagoano kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. Shannon Barnard showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zé Pedro Leão, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. In the 88th minute, Sydney de Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 89 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Brazabrantes! Brazabrantes:s Enrique Pontes showed great skill when he stopped Afonsinho Mandrak:s penalty. Shannon Barnard stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sérgio Lima's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. CRUZEIRO ESPORTE CLUBE walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
