After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Pedrinho Guimarães managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gears of War MZT's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedrinho Guimarães was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nilmar Torres breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 17 minutes into the game, Hudson Abreu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gears of War MZT's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independente FC the free kick. After 17 played minutes Gears of War MZT got a freekick which was hit by Hudson Abreu. Independente FC's Nilmar Torres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedrinho Guimarães in the 22nd minute of play. Elano Peixoto hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. 28 minutes into the game, Independente FC's Thomás Ramalho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Elano Motta made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 30 minutes, Fabrício Braga mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Independente FC and the Gears of War MZT players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Gears of War MZT booed when Independente FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabrício Braga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nilmar Torres didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hudson Abreu went, in the 32nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Thomás Ramalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elano Motta having to interfere. After some careless play in the Gears of War MZT defense, Thomás Ramalho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elano Motta. The Gears of War MZT fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elano Motta should have stopped the shot. Gears of War MZT's Elano Motta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aílton de Almeida in the 42nd minute of play. Thomás Ramalho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Elano Motta read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. Luiz Guilherme Mendes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half Independente FC were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Hudson Abreu to strike the kick off in the second half. Pedro Augusto Andrade made in the 55th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Guto Massa however managed to control. Elano Motta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independente FC.
